3. Short description of product, tool, service or otherMeasurement of loneliness, depression, and behavioral symptoms (BPSD) (e.g., apathy, insomnia, agitation in people with dementia, PwD) in clinics and research is based primarily on observer report. Symptoms are drivers of increased mortality, morbidity, institutionalization, societal costs and caregiver burnout. The goal of our idea is repurposing of existing technology and to validate cutting-edge wireless sensors, RoomMate, to measure functioning and BPSD in PwD. RoomMate is an infrared deep sensor, available in Norway, but not systematically tested in PwD. Signals are processed by machine learning algorithms. We hypothesize that data on gait speed, sleep and spatial location by RoomMate are valid BPSD markers and revolutionize dementia care with added values to other clinical relevant situations e.g. medication adaption and end-of-life care.
