Description:
Super Lingo is a project to create an online English-language learning tool. The program will consist of short, intensive language classes and are designed for healthy adults as well as those have reported Subjective Cognitive Decline (SCD), Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), and people with early stage dementia. The users of the tool will use the online games and role playing scenarios independently for a six-month period.
Overview:
Super Lingo is a project to create an online English-language learning tool. The program will consist of short, intensive language classes and are designed for healthy adults as well as those have reported Subjective Cognitive Decline (SCD), Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), and people with early stage dementia. The users of the tool will use the online games and role playing scenarios independently for a six-month period.
Objectives:
The Super Lingo project is intended to improve and extend the supply of high-quality learning opportunities which are tailored to the needs of people experiencing cognitive decline and mild dementia. This will be assured by creating an innovative foreign language training program tailored for this target group. A team of language, technology and dementia experts will work with our target population on a continuous basis establishing feedback loops to design, test and refine the training package.
Initiatives:
Strengths:Tailored Approach, as it focuses on addressing the specific needs of individuals experiencing cognitive decline and mild dementia, providing them with language learning opportunities suited to their cognitive abilities.Interactive Learning, Inclusion and Accessibility.Innovation:Targeted Language Learning approach with a focus on creating a language learning tool specifically tailored to individuals experiencing cognitive decline and mild dementia. This customization caters to their unique cognitive abilities, ensuring an optimized learning experience.Gamification (interactive games and role-playing scenarios).Relation to State-of-the-Art:Cognitive Decline Research, potentially helping to understand the changes in cognitive abilities, such as memory, attention, language, and problem-solving, that occur with aging and various neurodegenerative conditions.
Shortcomings:
Limited Generalizability. The effectiveness and applicability of the program to other languages or cognitive conditions may not be fully explored or addressed. Not sure how certain barriers such as limited access to technology, lack of internet connectivity, or unfamiliarity with digital tools would not hinder some individuals from fully benefiting from the program. The approach may not fully account for the individual differences in cognitive abilities, learning preferences, or language proficiency among the target population.Sustaining user engagement and motivation over a six-month period may be a challenge, particularly for individuals with cognitive decline or dementia who may experience fluctuating levels of attention, memory, and interest. The role of caregivers, who play a significant role in supporting individuals with cognitive decline, may not be fully integrated or considered in the design and implementation of the program.
