On October 2, 2024, as part of the EU Week for Sustainable and Inclusive Communities: the Future is SHAFE, the handover of SIRENE and NET4Age-Friendly results took place in Brussels, at the European Committee of the Regions.
This was a symbolic event where the main achievement of these projects were delivered to regional representatives, namely from Portugal, Spain, Italy, Germany and Ireland, as well as to relevant European networks such as the RSCN (AHA - Reference Site Collaborative Network), EUREGHA (European Regional and Local Health Authorities), ENSA (European Network of Social Authorities) and ELISAN (European Local Inclusion & Social Action Network).
The SIRENE project, funded by Horizon Europe and coordinated by SHINE 2Europe, is designed to enhance social innovation ecosystems that provide green community services. It developed a social innovation framework that connects social innovators with industry and academia to promote smart living solutions.
In parallel, NET4Age-Friendly, a COST Action with over 775 members from 50 countries, created and nurtured an international interdisciplinary network for the promotion of inclusive and healthy environments.
During this high-level political gathering, the final outcomes of the SIRENE and NET4Age-Friendly projects were presented to policymakers, researchers, industry representatives, and civil society actors. The event also marked the official launch of the SHAFE Foundation, which will ensure the continuity and implementation of the advancements achieved throughout these initiatives.
In conclusion, this handover represents an advancement in the effort to cultivate sustainable and inclusive communities throughout Europe. By bridging innovative solutions with regional authorities and stakeholders, these initiatives are set to enhance social well-being and pave the way for a healthier future for generations to come.
