Overview:
Development of a multimodal mobile technology to facilitate the movement of people in wheelchairs
Objectives:
Lasting 3 years (2013-2016), this research initiative aims to design and develop a multimodal technological solution for mobility assistance for people using a manual wheelchair or a scooter, the all in an urban context. The specific objectives include:- the description of the daily experience and perception of these people in relation to their movements in the urban environment;- the definition of accessibility criteria and the design of a spatio-temporal accessibility information system, according to the principles of cognitive design, for a few targeted routes in a circumscribed borough of the City of Qu?ec;- the design and development of an interactive and multimodal interface (visual, auditory, oral, tactile, etc.) adapted to the different user profiles of manual wheelchairs and scooters;validation of the applicability of the alpha version of the technological innovation with a small sample of people using manual wheelchairs and scooters;- the elaboration of recommendations to revise the norms and standards of planning and urban development in order to improve the accessibility of the City of Quebec.
